SWCF Carbon Footprint Reduction Activity

articles

The Foundation is currently raising funds to assist, in our little way, address the challenges of Climate Change here in the Philippines. One way is to help reduce carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and therefore help reduce man’s carbon footprint.

We have started a tree planting program at the Bohol Biodiversity Complex in Bilar, Bohol as trees are a major CO2 gas absorber. Most of the trees to be planted are members of the Dipterocarpaceae Family (Dipterocarps for short), from the 16 species that we have found naturally growing on the island. However, due to the decline in forest cover, many of these species continue to decline in numbers. We are therefore asking your help to plant more of these trees.

If you would like to have one or more trees planted in your name or the name of a loved one or friend, the cost is 10 dollars US or 500 Philippine pesos for each tree. This cost includes the tree, labor for planting, and a sign placed in front of the tree. We shall also email the person a certificate that the tree was planted in their name and was done so to help reduce their carbon footprint. The Foundation staff will also provide a digital picture of the tree after it has been planted if the email address is provided. The donation for the tree also includes the maintenance of the tree for two years following its planting.

Plant a larger group of trees:

If you would like to plant several trees, please consider the following packages:

For a One Hundred Dollar (US) or (5,000 pesos) Donation: A small tree grove consisting of 15 native lowland hardwoods will be planted in your name or the name you designate. A sign will be placed at the grove indicating species, date planted and the name of the person for which it is planted.

For a Two Hundred Dollar (10,000 peso) Donation: A large tree grove consisting of 30 native lowland hardwoods will be planted in your name or the name you designate. A sign will be placed at the grove indicating species, date planted and the name of the person for which it is planted.

As with individual trees, a certificate of the planting will be sent to the person for whom the groves were planted and a digital picture of the grove if the email address is provided.

Please note the planted tree(s), will later serve as a seed source for seedling production to help repopulate the natural forest areas with these magnificent trees.
