Book Corner Program Benefits 110 Children

The 2009 SWCF Book Corner Program established a total of 7 Book Corners in public day care centers in two towns in the province of Bohol and a special center for prostituted youth in Cebu Cebu. The beneficiary towns are Batuan and Danao. The Book Corners benefited 110 enrollees of the public Day Care Centers and 50 youth clients of the FORGE Foundation Activity Center in Cebu City.
SWCF started implementing the program in 1999 and has since established a total of 72 Book Corners in the provinces of Bohol, Cebu and Lanao del Sur.
The Book Corner Program equips public day care centers with story books, educational toys, teaching manuals and other materials designed to enhance the learning capacity of the children and teaching capacity of the teachers. This program hopes to fill the gap in the rural education sector where there is minimal support in educational materials from the government. The program relies on private donations from SWCF friends.
This year’s donors are Margaret Bagley, Fran Cole Jasper, Dr. Henry and Mrs. Schwalbenberg, all from USA, Michael and Beryl Cruise of Canada and counterpart contributions from the beneficiary centers.
