Camping At The Bohol Biodiversity Complex

High School Science Club members of the Holy Name University (HNU) of Tagbilaran City, Bohol spent their Valentine weekend (Feb. 13-14, 2010) camping at the Bohol Biodiversity Complex in Bilar, Bohol.. Forty-three (43) students and two (2) teachers participated in the Nature Encounter Program facilitated by the Soil and Water Conservation Foundation Training Center staff.

Major activities of the 2-day event included the Biodiversity Trivia Search and Challenge, hands-on practical skills training for tree nursery and livestock maintenance, visiting the monkeys in Rajah Sikatuna Protected Landscape and caving. Time was given for the participants to acquaint themselves of the different facilities of the Complex. This orientation included a walk on the karst trail through the Dipterocarp Gene Bank and the Rainforestation area of Bohol Island State University, demonstrations in the endemic tree and dipterocarp nurseries, a briefing about the activities of the vermi- composting facility and a visit to the province’s livestock field office and BEMO’s Environmental Learning Center.

SWCF’s Nature Encounter Program is designed to help instill an environmental ethic in individuals and communities to foster the wise use and conservation of Mother Earth’s resources. Each trip is tailored to the needs of students and teachers or other visitors.
